Govt Secures Fuel Prices Until Dec 2026

President Prabowo Directs National Energy Stability

Amid global economic uncertainties, the Indonesian government is taking decisive steps to ensure domestic energy stability. President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his cabinet ministers, particularly the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, to maintain the availability and affordability of fuel prices. This proactive measure is taken in response to public concerns regarding potential energy price hikes that could trigger massive inflation and significantly reduce the purchasing power of citizens.

In his latest directive, the President emphasized that energy is the lifeblood of the national economy. Therefore, cross-ministerial coordination led by relevant ministries must remain entirely focused on optimal public service delivery. One of the main points of this presidential instruction is the absolute guarantee that there will be no price increase for the subsidized Pertalite fuel in the near future, a policy highly anticipated by the wider public across the archipelago.

Pertalite Fuel Prices Guaranteed Stable Until 2026

Excellent news has arrived for millions of motorists and daily commuters in Indonesia. The government has officially guaranteed that the price of Pertalite fuel will not experience any increase until December 2026. This strategic decision is being closely monitored by the ministry led by Bahlil, aiming to provide economic certainty for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as the lower-to-middle class population who rely heavily on affordable transportation.

"Fuel price stability is the ultimate key to maintaining the pace of national economic growth," stated an internal source from the government. By locking the Pertalite price at its current level until the end of 2026, the government hopes that inflation can be controlled much more effectively. This long-term policy is also expected to significantly stimulate domestic consumption, which has historically been one of the primary drivers of Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Economic observers have broadly welcomed this move, although they also actively remind the government to remain vigilant against the continuous fluctuations in global crude oil prices. Swelling energy subsidies could potentially burden the State Budget (APBN), yet the investment in social stability is considered far more crucial during the current momentum of government transition and economic recovery.

Addressing the PLN Electricity Crisis in South Kalimantan

Beyond the fuel price issue, the government is also highlighting the electricity supply crisis occurring in several regions. President Prabowo specifically highlighted the power outage incidents that have troubled residents in the South Kalimantan region. Strict instructions have been given to the state electricity company, PT PLN (Persero), to immediately accelerate the recovery process and ensure the absolute reliability of the transmission network.

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia for the South Kalimantan representative office has also spoken out regarding this pressing situation. They strongly hope that the repair of electrical infrastructure by PLN can be completed much faster than the initial target. Power outages not only disrupt basic household activities but also paralyze the public service sector and local businesses that depend heavily on a stable electricity supply for their daily operations.

The government remains fully committed to continuously monitoring PLN's performance on the ground. Synergy between the Ministry of Energy under Bahlil's command and supervisory institutions like the Ombudsman is extremely vital to ensure that consumer rights are properly fulfilled. Moving forward, regular and comprehensive audits of electrical infrastructure will be vastly improved to prevent the recurrence of large-scale blackouts in vital regions across the country, ensuring a stable energy future for all Indonesians.
